Public invited to find out more about Portadown Train Station redevelopment

Public Information Sessions, February 22 & 23

Following the recent announcement of a £3.6 million upgrade at Portadown Train Station, Translink is inviting the public to find out more about the major redevelopment project.

Public information sessions will take place in the station on February 22, 12-2pm, and February 23, 5 – 8pm.

Gerard McAtarsney, Translink Southern Route Manager, says it will be an excellent opportunity to find out more about station plans:

“This is an exciting time for passenger transport in Portadown with construction work due to start shortly.

“These information sessions will include the opportunity to view plans, meet local Translink representatives and ask questions about the redevelopment.

“Current facilities will be transformed into an attractive and fully accessible train station fit for today’s busy lifestyle and the growing numbers of passengers choosing to travel by train.

“Key features will include: redesign and modernisation of current passenger waiting facilities; new lift access from Obins Street and lifts installed for access between all platforms; new automatic doors and enhancements to the station’s external appearance.

“Work will require a reduction in the number of car-parking spaces at the Park & Ride due to new temporary access arrangements. There will be alternative car parking space available in our over flow car park in Castle Street and would ask that customers allow a little bit more time to park their vehicle during these works.

“We are also contacting local residents directly to ensure they are fully informed on developments. For safety reasons some works will need to be carried out at night and we will work hard to keep noise to a minimum.

“We would ask for support from local people as we improve station facilities and help secure a bright future for local rail travel,” said Gerard.

Construction work is due to commence on February 27 with project completion planned for December 2013.
